This Server's Jobs

This server's role is to take part in the redundant mySQL database cluster and provide a clustered filesystem for local redundant storage. These two redundant storage solutions may be used as the foundation for other, web-available services including email, web, & DNS.

This Server's Name

A Pedunculate Oak in Denmark

Like all of the new high availability servers at farrellit, this machine is named from a tree.

The Oak is beautiful type of tree that grows, in it's various shapes and sizes, all over the world*. The white, red, and burr oak trees that grow near me are some of my favorite trees. Majestic and strong, the powerful Oak is a wise and stately addition to local groves.

The wood of the oak trees that grow around here is quite hard, and they often live quite a long time. These trees are an appropriate namesake for this server because it is powerful and, since its hardware is fairly modern, it should be around a while.

* The genus Quercus is amazingly diverse, including deciduous and coniferous trees and shrubs. Originally thinking of the group in a less technical sense, I have only provided a cross-section of the wikipedia page.
